Narrative
The Life, Roles, and Voices of Henry Fonda’s 1981 Final Interview tells a journey through American history from 1651 to the presidential era of the 1980s, as Fonda personifies the nation’s complexities on a road trip from NY to the Pacific.. Perhaps the best film I saw at the 74th Berlinale, Definitely the most interesting. It was created by Alexander Horwath, the former director of the Austrian Film Museum, and you can see his mastery of film history in every minute of this essay. However, Henry Fonda for President does not limit itself to film history, but sympathetically connects the life of Henry Fonda and his films to the history of the United States from the 16th century to the present day. Interviewed that his first cut was over 6 hours long, but he and his editor and cinematographer Michael Palm condensed it so effectively, the film spends its time like every Fonda film, but never gets boring despite its three hours.
