Narrative
A family is invited to spend an entire weekend in a remote house in the countryside, but as the weekend progresses, they realize that there is a dark side to the family that invited them. The story is inspired by the experiences of Christian Tafdrup, director of the original Danish film Speak No Evil (2022), who befriended a Dutch couple while on vacation in Tuscany with his wife. Although the Dutch were somewhat shy in social contact, the two couples got along very well, and after returning home, Tafdrup received an invitation from a Dutch family in the Netherlands. He briefly considered it, but decided that it would feel strange living with people he didn’t really know; his story for the film was born as he unleashed his darkest fantasies about what might happen if he accepted the invitation (while claiming that the original Dutch couple never gave off any bad vibes).

In this remake, the nationalities of the two families have been changed to American and British. In the bathroom, while washing his eyes, he has a subconjunctival haemorrhage in his left eye, in the next scene his eyes are perfectly clear. Ben Dalton: Why are you doing this to us? It didn’t make you feel as bad as the first part

I just watched the new version of Speak No Evil and as usual the American version had to change the ending which made the original absolutely incredible for a horror fan. I didn’t hate the 2024 version but it didn’t have as much tension as the first one. It didn’t make you want to strangle all the actors like the first part.
The first part 10/10, the second 6/10
And it didn’t make you feel for the characters like the first part. No matter how much you hate the stupid naivety or pure evil of the characters, you still felt for all of them in the first game. And that’s generous because it wasn’t as bad as it could have been, but definitely watch the original if you really want a good cinematic experience that will leave you shocked instead of oh well that happened. The final season of What We Do in the Shadows is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month.
