Narrative
The ghosts of a deceased husband and wife are haunted by an insufferable family who have moved into their home and hired a malevolent spirit to exorcise them. This is his favorite Michael Keaton movie.. Otho’s shoes when he spray paints the walls in the house, he changes from his red fire truck elf looking shoes to white sneakers as he walks through the bathroom and then changes back to his red elf shoes when he goes into the next room. Adam : What are your qualifications? Beetlejuice: Oh. Well… I’m a graduate of Harvard Business School. I travel quite a lot.
NOW WHAT DO YOU THINK?
I survived the black plague and had a pretty good time doing it. I’VE SEEN THE EXORCIST ABOUT 167-SEVEN TIMES AND EACH TIME I WATCH IT GET FUNNIER… NOT TO MENTION YOU’RE TALKING TO A DEAD GUY… Do you think I am qualified? The Geffen logo is accompanied by a haunting version of the song Banana Boat (sung by the film’s composer Danny Elfman). A work print of the film has surfaced with several added/alternate scenes. This version of the film runs about 2 minutes shorter than the theatrical release, has a few extra scenes and some others missing, is in black and white, and has a timecode on the bottom. This version has 4 main differences:
Alternate Scene:
The scene where Adam tries to leave the house and his wife dies is different.
Adapted into Terror Toons (2002)
Instead of a desert, he sees an empty darkness full of rolling gears. Extra scenes:
There is an added scene where Lydia creates images of Adam and Barbra. After her mother yells at her and accuses her of cutting holes in her sheets, Lydia runs upstairs and tries to convince her father that the pictures are real. There is more to the scene where the adults search the attic for ghosts as we see a desert monster trying to eat Adam and Barbra as they hang from the attic window. Finally, there’s another 2 minute scene at the end where we see Lydia riding her bike home from school and her parents on the phone with Jane telling her they don’t want to sell the house. Lydia’s dance scene is shorter in this version and there is no scene with Beetlejuice in the waiting room. The film ends with the last exterior shot of the house. Day-OTraditional, lyrics by William A.
Davis looks and acts like
Attaway & Irving Burgie [Wrongly attributed as written by William A. Attaway & Irving Burgie (as Lord Burgess)] Featuring Harry Belafonte courtesy of RCA Records. This film has always been: 1 – very popular; 2 – very different; 3 – very funny; 4 – a very fast moving hour and a half movie. Several of the characters in this film – especially Michael Keaton’s unique and sometimes repulsive title character “Beetlejuice” – are always fascinating to watch. With it – and the entire film – you also get a lot of humor and creepy special effects. It was strange to see Alec Baldwin in such a low-profile role. In the 90s, he played very few such people. well, Davis, who has almost always played nice, lovable people that audiences love.
They are all good
It took me four viewings to finally appreciate Catharine O’Hara’s comedic talent in this film. Now she’s my favorite and someone I find absolutely hilarious as the spoiled wife/mother of the family who moves into the "haunted house" inhabited by Baldwin and Davis. Keaton rose to fame as an actor with this swashbuckling Robin Williams-type role, although he never followed up with anything as popular as this film. Winona Rider is cute as the teenage daughter, and we get other fun supporting roles from people as diverse as talk show host Dick Cavett, singer Robert Goulet, and actor Jeffrey Jones.
